The Ineos operated Forties Pipeline System (FPS) is now back in full operation following the discovery of a leak in mid December.

All restrictions to the flow of oil and gas from platforms using the system have now been lifted and the processing plant at Kinneil has also resumed operation.

A controlled shutdown of the FPS was implemented by the Operator on December 11 after the pipeline was found to have a hairline crack at a location close to Red Moss, south of Aberdeen.

Ineos completed the acquisition of the 42 year old FPS from BP in November 2017 for circa $260m. The 235-mile pipeline system links 85 North Sea oil and gas assets to the UK mainland and delivers almost 40% of the UK’s North Sea oil and gas production.

Industry body Oil and Gas UK has said the loss in production while the pipeline was closed was worth in the region of £20m per day.
